Getting our library records out of Re:Discovery and into the Archivists’ Toolkit has proven to be a challenging process. This post describes that process in somewhat gory and technical detail.

As many of you know, we have moved all of our finding aid data to XTF (see an earlier post for details on XTF), which is now available online at http://collectionguides.rockarch.org/xtf/search.

We have just partnered with Archive-It to begin our Web Archiving Program. Web archiving is the capture, management and preservation of websites and web resources; Archive-It is a web-based subscription service from the Internet Archive that will capture digital content for the Rockefeller Archive Center. Archive-It will host and store the crawled website files, called Web ARChive or WARC files, at the Internet Archive data centers and provide the Rockefeller Archive Center with a copy of those WARC files. We will in turn preserve these electronic records using Archivematica our digital preservation management system.

This past week, the Artefactual team of Peter Van Garderen, President/Systems Archivist, Evelyn McLellan, Systems Archivist and Austin Trask, Systems Engineer made a site visit to Rockefeller Archive Center to install the 0.9 version of Archivematica. This beta version of the open sourced digital preservation system will allow us to preserve and maintain our backlog of born digital and digitized records.
