Jackie Dooley (past SAA president and part of the OCLC Research team) has posted a series of articles reviewing recent digital archivist job postings on the OCLC Research blog, hangingtogether.com. Of the nineteen job postings listed in a recent two week period, she calls out our posting as one she especially likes: it avoids some of the vagueness that has been prevalent in digital archivist postings over the last few years, and the job responsibilities are appropriate for the level of the position. She continues writing about the job listings in another post, discussing the responsibilities presented in the job descriptions. In her final post she discusses the skill set required for digital archivists. Both posts include blurbs from our listing. It’s nice to see our job description highlighted in such a way - it shows we’re on the right track as far as shaping D-Team openings, and we’re also effectively communicating that to the audience of job seekers.

As many of you know, we have already begun to start planning on implementing Aeon.

As you should all know by now, we will be transitioning from ATReference to ArchivesSpace in a couple of months. It has been a lengthy project, but we’re quickly approaching its final stages. As such, I wanted to give everyone a quick rundown of the final timeline and the work that we are doing to get us there.

As most of you know by now, we’ll be implementing Aeon here at the RAC starting in a couple of months. This will be a pretty big project, and one that gives us the opportunity to reconfigure and restructure some core reference services workflows. It’s an exciting prospect, but one that will also involve a lot of change, so I thought I’d outline the three major processes that will be affected by Aeon.

In November 2013, the first phase of the Legacy Digital Media Survey began with examining collection information of the legacy collections at the Rockefeller Archive Center.

The Legacy Digital Media Survey aim is to gain intellectual and physical control over digital media materials in the collections. This survey came about due to the accumulated backlog of unprocessed and unknown amount of digital media over the past forty years of collection building at the RAC.  Initial steps are being taken in order to manage the backlog of born-digital content for identification, separation and accessibility of these at-risk items.
